so i went and saw Palindromes last night by Todd Solondz, and i thought it was pretty good. i was expecting it to be much more harsh & disturbing, so i was pleasantly surprised and was actually moved by the main character (or the many main characters) more than i thought i would be. and i really liked the haunting voice of the lady singing over the score. i found this online just now:
"In Palindromes, Nathan Larson returned to a small budget score: "Solondz funded the film himself, so it was just him, me and my laptop," indeed it is the first feature Larson composed almost entirely on his laptop. Perhaps due to its surreal presentation (Solondz makes frequent changes to the actor playing the main character) and its rather bizarre storyline of a 12-year-old girl desperate to get pregnant, Larson says Solondz referenced Rosemary's Baby for the soundtrack. It's Larson's wife Nina's voice you hear on the film's score, and he says Solondz directed her singing in the studio which he hadn't experienced before."

Skimming through last week's chronicle so I can recycle it... (I have to go through every page before I can toss it out)
All of my LEAST favorite candidates won:
Betty Dunkerley! EVIL!!
Lee Leffingwell!! When did Austin become right-wing religious moralistic do-gooders like the rest of this damn red state & nation?!?!??!
Even Ben Stein was preaching about God on Craig Ferguson the other night.
My not-so-secret secret, I am completely and totally in love with Craig Ferguson. I've stalked him online. Well, that's no big deal, I stalk everyone online.
Something about hot older foreign men with sexy accents and I'm mush. Don't reveal my secret, though, lest it be used against me.
Speaking of secrets, here's a beautiful, tragic, hopeful, honest, touching site. (thanks to BigSleep666 for the link)
Speaking of BigSleep666, he's a badass: "In other news, on Friday, I made the Austin slam team." Way to go, Badass BigSleep666!
This is a GREAT write-up about Flicker in last Thursday's Chronicle. Too bad more of you losers weren't there. But it was a great turnout anyway!
The Paramount summer series just came out. You'll probably catch me at a few double features this summer. Escaping the heat in a cool Paramount seat.
I have no desire to see/hear/read the vagina monologues. Does that make me a lesbian? Or incredibly hetero? Who cares. Either way...Paris Hilton is hot! Old ladies talking about their vaginas is not.
