my sister got me this hilariously cute little book for my birthday. needless to say, she was probably trying to tell me something. and yes, i mostly relate to Kim, the angriest one of the bunch...

Kim the angry little Asian girl is true to her moniker. She's one short-tempered little girl! Grrr!!! Grrr!!! Grrr!!!

Deborah the disenchanted princess. She's a girl who has it all - beauty, money, cute clothes, great hair - but she's NEVER happy! Sigh...

Maria the crazy little Latina. She's quite loopy. She doesn't look at the world, she looks inside it! She's one super kooky kid!

Wanda the fresh little soul sistah. Because we all need a friend who's well-adjusted and positive. (Secretly, we hate people like her!)

Xyla (pronounced Zy-la) is the gloomy girl. She's full of doom and gloom! It's like a dark cloud of rain follows her...

you should go buy angry little girls for all the angry little friends in your life...

April 6 2005

i'm cleaning up my desk at my job. it's always a weird thing, a nostalgiac thing almost. looking at all the junk and papers and emails you've accumulated just over the past six months, and now you have to decide what's worth keeping and what's worth throwing in the trash. that's the hardest thing for me, trashing stuff. even though it may be outdated, useless, and completely irrelevant to me at this point, i still place a lot of attachment on everything i do, and the tiniest email can send me into nostalgiac land.

one would think the easiest thing to do would be being able to throw out all the chronicles that have collected underneath my desk the past few months, but no, not such an easy task for jill. here's a great horoscope of mine, although irrelevant at the time, now it is appropriate:

Aries: Jon Stewart, host of Comedy Central's The Daily Show, is a big star now. But on his way to the top, he has sometimes had a laid-back attitude toward ambition. "As long as I can remember," he has said, "I wanted to sleep late, stay up late, and do nothing in between." Believe it or not, Aries, I suggest you adopt an equally leisurely approach in the coming week. The best thing you can do to serve your burning desires in the long run is to explore the healing mysteries of being a lazy bum right now.

unfortunately, this horoscope was for the week of March 6-March 11, the onset of SXSW, and it couldn't have been more inaccurate at the time in its advice-giving to me. but now that the fest is over, the advice couldn't be more perfect. perhaps that's why i hold onto things that seem obscure at the time, because later, you just might need to hear it again when the time is right...

My horoscope this week couldn't have been any more right on for me:

Aries

I think you're ready for your once-a-decade reminder from Anais Nin about the hazards of not growing. I first brought her pithy quote to the attention of the Aries tribe back in 1993. It had a salubrious effect on many of you, dissolving some of your crystallized fears and speeding up your evolution. Let's hope it works the same magic this time: "The day came when the risk it took to remain tight inside the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." (P.S. Think back to where you were in 1993. It's time for you to leap to the next level as you resume working on a long-term project you began back then.)
